Andover was established in 1646 as part of a much larger area encompassing North Andover and South Lawrence. To encourage settlement, residents were given a three-year immunity on taxes.
Andover was an early manufacturing town going back to 1775 and through the early 1900s. You can still see remnants of its early roots in manufacturing. While now mostly a residential community, it still hosts many large and small corporations.
