The city of Haverhill is located in Northeastern Massachusetts on the Merrimack River. It borders Plaistow and Atkinson to the north and northeast. To the east and southeast, it borders Groveland and Boxford. North Andover is located to the south with Methuen on its westerly border.
Located off Route 495 the city is located about 30 minutes from the seacoast of Massachusetts and 36 miles to downtown Boston. It has easy access to both Routes 93 and 95.

A Little About Haverhill’s History
Haverhill Massachusett’s roots were that of a farming community during the mid-1600s. It was made up of Puritans from the Newbury Plantation. Haverhill was originally known as Pentucket when it was purchased from the Indians in the 1640s. Believe it or not, Haverhill was considered a “frontier” town through much of the 17th and 18th centuries and was subject to many Indian raids.
12 miles of the Merrimack River flow through the heart of Haverhill which helped shaped its importance as a major industrial city.
By the late 18th century and through the 19th century Haverhill was a major American industrial center. It was a major manufacturer of textiles and leather as well as having a thriving shipbuilding industry. Up until the early 20th century, Haverhill was the largest manufacturer of shoes and is still known as Queen Slipper City.
