Recently I had the opportunity to be part of Tom Caffarella’s Real Estate Mastermind Series. I took part in a discussion titled, No One Cares About Your Listings: How to Create Content Consumers Will Sink Their Teeth Into with Kevin Vitali. There are some great tips to learn how to win at social media and the internet as a real estate agent.
Winning at Social Media for Real Estate
Social media for real estate is a long game. It is not something that happens overnight. So what is required to win at social media and the internet for real estate?
- Consistency- It is hard but you need to consistently allocate time to spend on social media and blogging. I personally try to write one major article a week for my real estate blog and then spend the week marketing that content on different social media channels.
- Engage- Social media is like a party. Are you the lurker that likes a few thing here and there or are you actually trying to engage? Don’t blog? You can share a G+ post you like from an active group like Google+ Real Estate Community. The great part is when you share introduce it with your own take on the topic. The same goes for facebook and other social media channels. The key is engaging and providing your own twist on a topic.
- Provide useful information– Your followers don’t care about your listings or how great you are. They want valuable content they can use. How about Four Ways to Pay Your Mortgage Down Early or The 3 Vital Components of A Successful Home Sale? Those are topics that have a much broader appeal than your current listing.
Make Your Blog Posts Graphic!
Another point I bring up is the internet is visual. If you are blogging make great blog post graphics that stand out. Don’t make your graphics an after thought. Think about what makes you click on a post on social media. It is usually a photo and the headline.
Don’t be blah make it catchy. Your content will be more shareable. That is what it is all about! Getting your content shared.
Its a Long Game
As I mentioned before winning at social media is a long game. It takes a good year to gain traction and get found. Either do it and do it well or don’t waste your time. You need to be consistently blogging, sharing and engaging for at least a year before you start seeing results.
Set aside 20-30 minutes a day to participate in social media. And, I really mean participate. Don’t just like. Share other peoples content, comment and really engage.
Learn From The Social Media Influencers
Now this may be counter intuitive, but I am going to provide resources to other real estate agents in this article. The content will be written by other agents that is relevant to this topic of winning at social media.
This is important. The folks I am linking to are major players on the internet. They know the value of the backlink I am providing them from my article. I guarantee they will share my content on their social channels. Their social shares will be far reaching, more so than just my social channels.
The last point, I will make is if you want to win at social media, find follow and engage with the top real estate influencers. If you do it right, they will take notice and start sharing your content as well.
